Another image from my trip to the Kofa Mountain range in west arizona with Marc Adamus and Mac Danzig. Cholla cacti mingle with brittle brush blooms. You may see an almost identical shot from Marc at some point if he puts his up... he was about 20 yards to my left shooting another cholla-brittle brush patch, which was better than this(of course, he's Marc Adamus), and he had a better angle of the mountain range. He had scouted out the shot the day prior. I found this the morning of, not really knowing he was planning the same shot. I'm glad I didn't happen to set up at his spot, as I had gotten up a little earlier and walked right by it, haha! The clouds in the sky were a bit funky looking, so I chose to go with a 4 min exposure to get them looking a little more interesting. Was also fortunate to have the sun pop up right in between the peaks. Complicated blend consisting of a 4 minute exposure for the sky, one for the sunstar, and a focus stack for the foreground. Whatever compression 500px applies to images really wrecked the white spot in the sky. Unfortunately it got overexposed during the long exposure, and wasn't recoverable in post. Hard to avoid when shooting long exposure straight into the sun. I'm not entirely opposed to it. It's not like we can look straight at the sun with our own eyes and see all the detail around it. At this point, three days in, I was happy to have learned my lesson about cholla cacti, and was able to avoid them that morning. :)

In this clear and cold himalayan night I finally made it out of my tent to capture the beauty of the surrounding scenery. The three icy peaks in this shot are (from left to right): Rathong Peak (6,678m / 21,909ft), Kabru South (7,318m / 24,009ft) and Kabru Dome (6,585m / 21,604ft). Happy sunny day to everybody. While sun is shining with wonderful 20 degrees Celsius I am walking through the 200 years old catacombs of the ancient academy of fine arts. Then I found the right spot, but had to remove the smelly trash bins. Finally I was rewarded by this wonderful view up to the sky. Good light to everybody and peace.
