Corkscrew Falls by Steve Perry

OK, first off, no clue if that’s what the actual name of this falls is. In fact, I think it’s an unnamed falls, so we’re going with Corkscrew. Sound good? Cool

At any rate, I had heard about this falls when doing a little Hocking Hills internet research. Getting to it involves pulling off to the side of a little highway, jumping a guard rail and going down a hill. Next, you wade through a (slippery) creek for about 50 yards or so and are greeted with this little gem. Pretty cool if you ask me. (And yeah, I think it’s probably on private property, but there weren’t any “No Trespassing” signs, so…)

The pool you see in the photo is REALLY deep – you can only get so far before the real swimming starts. (Not that I’d recommend it – who knows what kind of currents may lurk below?)

As I was shooting, my 10 year old son Grant was behind me having a good time messing around in the shallow creek. Every shot or so I’d peek back and make sure he was OK.

At one point, juuuusssttt as I was turning to look back, I see him lose his footing and SPLASH! Right on his butt! At first I had that tinge of panic you get as a parent when something like that happens, but soon we were both laughing about it. I told him, “Hey, welcome to the club! If you don’t fall in every now and then, you ain’t doin’ it right!”

He was a good sport about the whole thing so I finished up my photos. Then, back up the hill and off to get some dry clothes. www.backcountrygallery.com
