Siberian Attack! by Ashley Vincent

Yikes! 8^. …...... ;^p The name of this little Siberian princess is Kow Hom, which roughly translated from Thai means sweet smelling rice; one of many endearing names Thais may chose to call their pets. Kow Hom was born at Khao Kheow Open Zoo (Chonburi Province, Thailand) shortly after her sister, Mali (Thai word for jasmine), on October 30, 2011, making them about four and a half months old around the time I shot this series during my second session with them last Saturday. Although I also captured image of Mali, as well as the both of them playing together, for better or worse Mali's handler's keep her on a bright-blue coloured harness (something of an eyesore for a photographer that's trying to create images of captive animals completely devoid of manmade elements!), as she's the stronger of the two and as long as the handlers can catch hold of the lead when playtime's over, Kow Hom is sure to follow. Being that I was either hunched down or laying flat on the ground for most of this shoot, both little ladies constantly regarded be as easy prey, making numerous attempts to stalk, launch and attack me, which had both Khun Nok and Khun Da (their wonderful handlers) as well as me chuckling and laughing for most of the time. This sequence of shots happens to have been Kow Hom's final “attack” on me. Khun Nok and Khun Da had already caught Mali and were taking her back in. I was just about to head after them when I looked back to see Kow Hom laying down in a small hollow taking a breather while watching us leave. I quickly dropped down to the ground laying flat on my stomach, knowing that she'd have seen the sudden movement and likely take interest and hunt me down one last time, which as you can see she certainly did – LOL ;^) Between the last frame I posted and the one you see here, I managed to fire of four shots, three of which were far from perfectly focused, and in fairness I have to say that I cropped this one about 50% to give it greater impact, as after the way I built up the drama with this series the last thing I wanted was to disappoint anyone, which I seriously hope I didn't! Many thanks to all of your who commented, voted and faved any of these, as it made the gift of sharing all the more fun :^)
